If a perfectly cooked burger, shoestring fries and hand-dipped milk shake are what you're craving, make the short drive to the new Steak 'n Shake in Centennial. Steak 'n Shake has been a staple in the Midwestern portion of the U.S. for more than 75 years, and fans are thrilled to see it come to Colorado!
Steak 'n Shake was founded in February, 1934 in Normal, Illinois. Gus Belt, Steak 'n Shake's founder, was intent on serving his customers the finest burgers and shakes in the business. He used prime steaks to make his burgers, including round, sirloin, and T-bones, and he would grind the meat into burgers right in front of guests.
Today, the burgers are still made with the finest prime steak cuts and the result is heavenly. For only $3.99 a customer can get the Original double and cheese steakburger on a toasted bun with fries. For the more adventurous, Steak 'n Shake offers a variety of burgers with toppings ranging from freshly made guacamole to Wisconsin butter and cheese.
Not to be overlooked in addition to the burgers, are the hand dipped shakes, which come loaded with whipped cream and toppings. Standards like strawberry and vanilla are on the menu, but don't miss the creative flavors like chocolate covered strawberry and mint cookies and cream.
Castle Pines Village resident Laura Zeh grew up in St. Louis Missouri, where Steak 'n Shake is an integral part of every childhood, and she was very excited to have one open so close to home in Colorado.
"I had been stalking the parking lot ever since they opened in November, hoping for a short wait time! I finally got to go just last week and had my usual double steakburger, their signature fries and a chocolate malt. It was a taste of home!"
If you're not a fan of burgers, the restaurant has plenty of other options - including fresh salads, grilled chicken sandwiches, BLT's, and homemade chili made with cuts of real steak, beans and spices, all slow simmered according to the founder's wife's recipe.
Steak 'n Shake features a sit-down restaurant and a drive thru. Be prepared for long lines and long waits on weekends, but rest assured that it's worth the wait. The restaurant also serves breakfast every day from 6 a.m. to 11 a.m. and features all-you-can-eat pancakes, traditional favorites, scrambles, skillets and even a breakfast steakburger!
Steak 'n Shake is located at the northwest corner of County Line Road and S. Quebec. Phone 303-221-4550, or visit www.steaknshake.com.
